I am not sure what I did to make a social media monster suggest that according to my behavior/interests/interactions I should be following "WLW in Georgia" but I am pleased to have confused the machine?

That I never see someone saying "We believe in free speech here" outside a context of "and that means you should shut up about being bothered by what got said"?

Yes, this is the same stupid dwama. I may give up usenet for Lent.

The 419 scammers who claim to be fundamentalist Christians who have several million dollars they'd like to invest in the founding of a church and bother me about it would be able to be milked until they fund [livejournal.com profile] fifthtrinity and my own damn work.

One: Saw Stardust. (Link leads to a completely unrelated image. No spoilers are contained, but I hope the joke is as obvious as I think it is. Final conflict resolution scene, in case one needs a hint.)

The Other: Reading blogs I don't usually read confounds me sometimes. That one I stopped reading a discussion because the comment, "Yeah, I'd like bigger tits too" or something like that completely broke my suspension of disbelief. This is why I write fiction; reality is just too implausible.

Please to stop making me feel old. I'm not yet thirty; I shouldn't be looking at the invasion of foul-mouthed fools on rasfc and saying, "Why are their parents letting them use the internet unsupervised?"

Old enough to be married, some of them, and sounding like they want to look brave and rebellious to better shock their grandparents. Kids these days; what's the world coming to?

... though now I think of it, the random music selection is probably indicative, if I remember my mythologies right.

People who don't read alt.poly will probably not have the context for this in its entirety. Short version of the context: the person who emailed me is someone I consider hostile to women, to women like me in particular, and who joined alt.poly under the presumption that the women there would be easy and thus do him.

Conversation cut. )

Dear people who make egg substitute suggestions on the web. If I had eggs right now, I wouldn't be looking for egg substitutes. This means that "substitutes" containing egg whites are Not Useful. What part of 'substitute' are you not understanding here? I don't mean "I'm mortally terrified of yolks" when I say "I don't have any goddamned eggs."

From conversation with the usual gang, while I was listening to the Grateful Dead.
Whitney is going to hell in a bucket, baby, but at least I'm enjoying the ride.
[livejournal.com profile] annwyd says "Bucket? Isn't that uncomfortable?"
[livejournal.com profile] oneironaut says "It could be an upholstered bucket."
I say "And more spacious than the traditional handbasket."

330 words, and I'm finally done with 51.

Also, now I need to write something to the tune of "The Sounds of Silence." "Hello Eris, my old friend / you've come to freak me out again . . ." (I got a bit of Sisters of Mercy growled "I want more" at an interestingly appropriate bit of writing . . . )

Now it is very, very late and thus time for me to sleep. I wish I were actually sleepy. Mmmmmmm . . . "Say goodnight, don't be afraid . . . ."
And other miscellanea. Not in chronological order.

Went to the game tonight with [livejournal.com profile] rivka and [livejournal.com profile] curiousangel. And my brother, who was late due to congenital disorganisation, but showed up (we missed the first inning; I had to reconstruct the scorecard from the at-bat information later). The Orioles played well. My brother (an A's fan) heckled everyone. "Let's go, Red Sox" in the second managed to thoroughly drown out and quell the actual O's fans present for a while. There was an awfully cute baby next to us.

Me to [livejournal.com profile] rivka: You stole our seventh inning!
[livejournal.com profile] rivka: You really should lock your clubhouse.
[livejournal.com profile] teinedreugan: But they did it in the sixth.
Me again: Well, they had to, otherwise we'd have it.

Other thoughts and notices from trip: There's a field west of the park on 28 that's slated for them to build a church. (Episcopalian, I believe.) The field is empty, mowed down, and on the crest of a hill is a wooden cross, weathered, brown and grey, with a ribbon of green draped over it in the sort of 'M' shape one gets draping ribbons of cloth over crosses.

I think it's perfect.

And they're just going to ruin it putting a building there.

(This observation provoked [livejournal.com profile] teinedreugan into starting a conversation with me about the human-centric tendencies of modern Christianity, but that's a thought for another entry, if at all.)

Hung out Friday with Aga and my little brother Ben who is no relation to me and [livejournal.com profile] vectorvillain. Had pizza at my father's place. Were very fuzzed by a geriatric cat, who is shouting at me as I type this.

Much of today before the game was occupied with [livejournal.com profile] teinedreugan trying to make his parents' DSL work, poor fellow. We got a Windows 98 disc from [livejournal.com profile] sstaten by hanging out in his basement for a while while it took an hour to read and then failed to burn. (Ack.)

Failed to get to the Baltimore Book Thing. ([livejournal.com profile] rivka, do you know about this?) May try on the way home tomorrow.

It's very weird to have a lengthy conversation with someone, feel a profound need to talk it over with someone, and feel even more profoundly that it's too private to discuss. Will probably have Daily Rite when I get home so I can talk to someone who was there about it.

And that's the news from Darnestown bordering on North Potomac (where all the women are primped, all the men are accountants, and all the children are amazingly trendy). (Mutter mutter bike lanes.)

Made the trip down safely. Left a little before two, got in a little after eleven-thirty.

The Mormon Temple on the Beltway still gives me a little ping of "Okay, I know how the world works here".

There are bike lanes on Route 28. Aren't we all fancy and upscale now? When I was a kid, we just had shoulders. Which were, well, exactly like the bike lanes only without the occasional painted bicycles.

Saw a fox on the way in.

Organisation still lacking.

Brain still lacking.

One of my normally quiescent mailing lists has been fairly chatty of late, with people who keep saying daft things that I feel an urge to poke holes in with a sharp stick.

One of the things that provoked a breaking out of the sharp stick was someone who was basically arguing in favor of subvert-the-dominant-paradigm lifestyle polyamory and ragging on people who don't do enough to undo social conditioning or what have you.

As I said to the gang: It occurs to me that by denying the necessity of iconoclasm in a fringe subculture, I'm being a terrifically perverse stereotypical Aquarius. (Unpacked slightly: The fashion is iconoclasm, so I won't.)

Though to continue with the astrology, a bit of backhanded perversity is probably in the books, given that my ascendant is Scorpio.
(Can't get no worse.)

225 words, and I'm leaving off in the middle of a dramatic motion rather than in the middle of a dramatic pause, which should make it easier to pick up the momentum again.

Other notes:

Feeling slightly less angstpuppyish after talking a little bit with [livejournal.com profile] brooksmoses this afternoon. Stupid damn distance.

The sentence "Whatever you do, be sure not to click on the first link Google gives you when searching for 'Say it with penis'." is much more menacing than the actual results of the search.

Prodding www.dictionary.com, feeling frustrated by the equation of "commitment" with "monogamy" again. . . .
  1. the trait of sincere and steadfast fixity of purpose; "a man of energy and commitment"
  2. the act of binding yourself (intellectually or emotionally) to a course of action; "his long commitment to public service"; "they felt no loyalty to a losing team" [syn: allegiance, loyalty, dedication]
  3. an engagement by contract involving financial obligation; "his business commitments took him to London"
  4. a message that makes a pledge [syn: dedication]
  5. the official act of consigning a person to a prison (or mental hospital)

There's a sarcastic comment somewhere in the vicinity of #5, there.

There's something vaguely secure-making about [livejournal.com profile] teinedreugan playing video games again, if only because I can watch the carnage over his shoulder. Bizarrely bonding experiences.

"I personally think they should be forced to listen repeatedly to the lyrics until they get a clue."

--Tom Scholz, of Boston / Downer's Revenge

(My favorite Tom Scholz quote remains, however, the time he was on a WZLX fundraiser thing, live and somewhere random (the Pru, maybe?). He got handed the mike, and said, "Uh," to it. The DJ was laughing at this -- "Tom, you're up on stage all the time, playing in front of thousands of people? Why so tongue-tied?" was the gist of his response.

The reply? Indicating the microphone, he said, "It hasn't got any strings on it!")

I'd take this person who accused me of prosletysing much more seriously if he hadn't also made a snide comment about my nonexistent atheism.
