The closest thing I have to a fiction WIP does not have a page 77, so I cannot do the page 77 quote version of the "quote lines 7-14 of page 77 (or 7) of your WIP" meme.

But this is what I can quote:

"Yeah, I figured you would." She smirked at me over her empty mug. "That's about all we got, though. The Yuanese pissed off a block of gearheads recently and it's cost them in the kingdoms."

"And gearheads aren't interested in good beer."

"Exactly. It's an entire block of people who hardly give a damn about the meat economy over there, which means we've got nothing to offer them. Not a single tomato." She held out one hand as if cupping a fruit and then mimed tossing it aside.

Side note: KJ's eighteen-month checkup went spendidly, she is a healthy and mighty babe. I am not healthy right now, but I have been stabbed gently in the chest, throat, head, wrists, and feet, and seem to be not coughing anymore? Also I have tea.

So, [livejournal.com profile] jenett posted a questionnaire thing to her blog, and I read through it and was full of "Wow, a paganism religious questionnaire that doesn't suck horribly" and the sudden thought that I didn't know how to answer it anymore, because I'm in the middle of an intense period of religious turmoil. Which is, on one level, okay, and on other levels very upsetting.

I am answering the questionnaire as best as I can in order to see if I can sort my head out, because filing things neatly is good for thinkybrain and makes it stop panicking quite so much. Thinkybrain is full of panic.

So the thing. )

Tagged by [livejournal.com profile] erstwhiletexan. I don't tag others, but play if you fancy.

The Rules: Don't take too long to think about it. Fifteen authors (poets included) who've influenced you and that will always stick with you. List the first fifteen you can recall in no more than fifteen minutes. Tag at least fifteen friends, including me, because I'm interested in seeing what authors my friends choose.

My answers behind the cut. )
For lack of anything better to do, here's a first songlines thing. Everyone else is doing 32 in a row, but I got distracted by a shiny object (and releasing the Wrath of Sarge) so I just did 22, skipping instrumentals, which I was getting a lot of.

So, on to the game.

Silliness cut. )

This thing.

You know how sometimes people on your friend's list post about stuff going on in their life, and all of a sudden you think "Wait a minute? Since when are they working THERE? Since when are they dating HIM/HER? since when???" And then you wonder how you could have missed all that seemingly pretty standard information, but somehow you feel too ashamed to ask for clarification because it seems like info you *should* already know? It happens to all of us sometimes.

The thingy. )

So I'll just meme. In a really kind of meta way, for the most part.

Pick an artist, answer questions with song titles:
Nightwish

1.) Are you a male or female? "Beauty of the Beast"
2.) Describe yourself: "The Poet and the Pendulum" ([livejournal.com profile] arawen can have "Crownless")
3.) How do you feel about yourself? "Wish I Had an Angel"
4.) Describe where you currently live: "Sleeping Sun"
5.) If you could go anywhere, where would you go: "Dark Chest of Wonders"
6.) Your best friend is: "Whoever Brings the Night"
7.) You hate: "Two for Tragedy"
8.) Did You know that __? "The Pharaoh Sails to Orion"
9.) What's the weather like? "Dead Gardens"
10.) If your life were a television show, what would it be called? "Stargazers"
11.) What is life to you? "Amaranth"
12.) What is the best advice you have to give? "Live to Tell the Tale"
13.) If you could change your name, what would you change it to? "Nemo" (now that's meta)

(This is for long forgotten light at the end of the world ....)

So.

( Sep. 22nd, 2007 11:37 pm)
Rather than blow off my state of angst and stress and all of that stuff, I will do the Bad Personals Ad meme. Hooray for displacement activity. Or something.

... what an appropriate bit of music to come up right now.

    I'm so into you
but I'm way too smart for you
even my henchmen think I'm crazy
I'm not surprised that you agree ...

The rules: Write yourself a dating ad.

1) It has to make you sound as unappealing as possible
2) It has to be honest - you can't lie at all
3) It can't sound as though you're deliberately making yourself sound unappealing.

The response. )

There's this meme thing going around in which one goes to find one's 42nd LJ post and evaluates it as the meaning of one's life. Mine is a locked thing, which summarises as follows:

While I was figuring out how to properly chronicle some highly involved, affectionate whimsy (involving strange naming practices, randomly brightening the day of a loved one, and silly uses of magic), my brother called me. He wanted to let me know that he and Dad had taken my advice on how to resolve their differences and were hoping to be on better terms henceforth.

That ... sounds about right. (The involved, affectionate whimsy is actually post #41, but it's referenced in post #42, so "While I was being very, very silly, I got a report in on my pastoral counselling" is a fair summary.)

I know I've used that post title before, but I think it's been a couple of years, so I can recycle an old joke. It goes with the mood, which is mostly full of the sort of emotion that's why I made this icon in the first place. I ... can't explain. I mostly just want to chronicle for the record. I will walk alone by the black, muddy river, singing a song of my own; all I wanted was a piece of the night.

I want to keep this one -- I wound up retelling a fragment of the Contendings of Heru and Set on the Cauldron, in dialogue style, and got, among other comments, a 'That'll teach me to settle for the kiddie version of the myths'. (Contains references to sexual conduct and thus may be questionable for work.)

Meanwhile, on alt.religion.wicca.moderated, one of my standard minor rants has been called 'brilliant' and compared favorably to Douglas Adams's Salmon of Doubt (which I have not read). This is the point at which I mutter, "Um, er" and stare at my feet.

Mild frustrations through the day, dealing with stuff. Did not manage to do anything on tasklist, but did manage to do my dance video work, which means I can get back to establishing that habit. I'm really quite tired, which is my current excuse for not getting anything done; also I did a lot yesterday. Goal for the week: finish with the guest room before [livejournal.com profile] suzimoses gets here Friday, or at least get it to the point that its condition doesn't make me neurotic.

Memething, because I feel like doing something fairly not-requiring-thought but demanding nattering on. )

Had a major exhaustion crash on the way to games, and then did a DDR sequence when at games. So exhausted. But actually working on establishing exercise habit; may try dance vid tomorrow.

I should write a weird Chaote essay on the Code of Ananda. Possible essay or entry about working the edge. Abundance essay. Note to me: do one of these sometime soon.

Mostly posting 'cause this meme was neat: put birthday into Wikipedia without date, select three neat facts, three births, three deaths. So:

1488 - Bartolomeu Dias of Portugal lands in Mossel Bay after rounding the Cape of Good Hope at the tip of Africa, becoming the first known European to travel this far south.
1690 - The colony of Massachusetts issues the first paper money in America.
1966 - The unmanned Soviet Luna 9 spacecraft makes the first controlled rocket-assisted landing on the Moon.

    1809 - Felix Mendelssohn, German composer (d. 1847)
1874 - Gertrude Stein, American writer and patron of the arts (d. 1946)
1952 - Fred Lynn, baseball player

1468 - Johannes Gutenberg, German publisher
1922 - John Butler Yeats, Northern Irish artist (b. 1839)
    1985 - Frank Oppenheimer, American physicist (b. 1912)

If I said "Buddy Holly" I suspect more people would know my birthday off the top of their heads. And maybe they'd be happy for a while....

I think I am becoming sick. This is not making me a happy birdie.

I am not accomplishing much these days. A lot of staring intensely at the blank page that is 3.13. I should go clean the bathroom tomorrow just so I'll have done something. Today I ... well, I reviewed my logs from [livejournal.com profile] overlandmush so I know what I need to be available for when we get going again. And I revelled in having a shirt. And I answered [livejournal.com profile] yezida's 'How's everyone doing with the work' finally.

I have also made soup.

Edited to add: And while I'm whining, my left hip is stiff and achey. Which is better than the sharp though intermittent pain it was manifesting for no damn reason yesterday, but still meh. In non-whining commentary, this case of recreational cognitive dissonance will amuse me for some time.

Memeish thing nicked from [livejournal.com profile] griffen:
Ten things I figure that people know about me. )
So into the journal it goes.

In other news, why is my eyebrow spasming?

Let's see if this manages to post without HTML errors! )

  1. "Original Sin". I have the Meat Loaf recording of it. There are other recordings. I wish to collect them.
  2. "Dragonfly", The Crüxshadows. Multiply layered, picked up another one this weekend.
  3. "Darkest Hour", Arlo Guthrie. If I could explain it, it would be ... really cool, actually.
  4. "Wish I Had an Angel", Nightwish. Burrrrning angel wings to dust.
  5. "Didn't Mean to Fall In Love", Boston. Always obsessed with Boston. This will do for current top for sheer humor value.
  6. "Without Faith", ThouShaltNot. Because it's cool.
  7. "Won't Get Fooled Again", The Who. Not because I've been listening to it a lot, but because I've been quoting it all the damn time.

In other news, found my goddamn flower petals. Go hippies. Dua Nefertem.
